“Every life is a journey, regardless of whether you stay in one place, live like a global nomad, or end up being something in between.”

― Ranjani Rao, Author of 'No Longer NRI: How I Left America for My Homeland'

9th of January is celebrated as Pravasi Bharatiya Divas or Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Day in India that marks Mahatma Gandhi’s return from South Africa to India in 1915. This day celebrates the overseas Indian’s contribution to the Nation’s growth and prosperity.

The number of international migrants is rising globally. Across the world, conflicts and instability have increased the number of people forced from their homes, apart from the hopes to find work.

We would be dedicating this newsletter to sharing some amazing recommendations themed around various emotions of a person settling abroad experiences.

In 2011, Naghmeh Farzaneh left her home in Iran to study abroad in the United States. When she first arrived, a simple exchange—like selecting ingredients in line at a fast food restaurant—could quickly become an overwhelming situation. During these difficult times, Farzaneh would take comfort in thinking about a piece of wisdom her mother shared while planting geraniums. In Scent of Geranium, Naghmeh Farzaneh brings watercolors to life in a beautiful animation that highlights her experience as an immigrant.
